Background

Professor Haibin Su previously served as a Senator of NTU’s Academic Board, contributing to the formulation of the university’s research and educational strategies. Currently, as an Associate Professor at HKUST’s Department of Chemistry, he oversees courses in physical chemistry, solid-state chemistry, computational chemistry, and quantum chemistry. His research focuses on the development and application of quantum mechanical and classical simulations to investigate the electronic, structural, energetic, and dynamical properties of functional materials; the exploration of emergent collective properties of condensed matter systems, particularly at the nanoscale; and the advancement of deep learning applications in physical, chemical, and biological systems.

With over two decades of experience in education and research, Professor Su has made pioneering contributions to multiscale theoretical and computational methods, including first-principles electronic structure, molecular dynamics, and mesoscopic statistical approaches. He has led multiple major research projects with total funding exceeding RMB 15 million, collaborating extensively with leading universities, national laboratories, and corporations across the U.S., Europe, and Asia.

Professor Su has authored 210+ papers in top-tier journals such as Nature Materials, PNAS, and Angewandte Chemie.

In the journey of drug discovery, computational algorithms are the keys to deciphering molecular structures and functional groups. Only by translating microscopic chemical logic into computable scientific language can we achieve precision design and transformative breakthroughs.
